International Conference on Geothermal Energy
Geothermal is made of two Greek words – geo which means ‘earth’, and thermo , which means ‘heat’. Thus, geothermal energy is the heat from the earth. It is a clean and sustainable source of energy. Resources of geothermal energy range from the moderate-to-low temperature hot spring systems to hot rock found a few miles beneath the earth’s surface, and down even deeper to the extremely high temperatures of molten rocks. The amount of heat within 10,000 meters of earth’s surface is 50,000 times more energy than all the oil and natural gas resources in the world.

ADB-Japan New and Renewable Energy Workshop
Renewable Energy, in India’s context, is significant for enhancing energy security through diversification of fuel sources and thereby reducing dependence on fossil fuels, sustainable and environmentally efficient growth and for overcoming power shortages in the country. Renewable energy technologies have substantial potential to provide reliable and quality power supply in the remote villages and hamlets by supplementing grid power (if exists) or entirely on its own.
Offshore Wind Power Potential of Gujarat
The economic growth in India is opening up great potential for development of renewable resources. Technological advancement in this sector is essential for meeting up with ever increasing energy demand of the country. Offshore Wind Power in Gujarat has the potential to generate and deliver sustainable supplies of clean, renewable base load. Very recently, Govt. of India has announced draft offshore wind power policy which is under active discussion and finalization. Gujarat being located on the western coast of India and having 1600 km long coastline has also great potential for offshore wind power projects.
