Ms. Nupur Gupta, has recently joined School of Petroleum Technology as a “lecturer” in “Applied Mathematics”. She has completed her doctoral thesis, titled: “Finite Element Methods for an Optimal Control Problem of Laser Surface Hardening of Steel”, in the Department of Mathematics, IIT-Bombay. Some fields of her specializations are, Numerical Methods, Finite Element Methods, Optimal Control Theory, Partial Differential Equations. Major part of her research includes, applying various finite element methods to the optimal control problem governed by linear or non-linear parabolic equations, which further includes theoretical and computational work. Before her PhD. (Mathematics), she has done her M.Sc. (Mathematics) from IIT-Mumbai and has worked on the project titled: “Parameter Estimations in Ecological Modeling”. She has been awarded Gold medal for topping the Delhi University for B.A. (Mathematics).
