Dr.G.P.Karmakar completed his post-graduation in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemical Engineering from Institute of Petroleum and Gas, Ploiesti, Romania, M.Tech. in Petroleum Engineering from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad and Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India. He did his post-doctoral research at FSU, Jena, Germany, at Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London and at FHL, Senftenberg, Germany.
After working at KDMIPE, ONGC, Dehradun, from 16th April, 1984 to 26th November, 1985, Dr. Karmakar worked as a Faculty Member in the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, from 28th November, 1985 to 14th October, 2008. He worked as Professor in Petroleum Engineering at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Raebareli, from 15th October, 2008 to 10th December, 2009. From 11th December, 2009 he has been working as Professor in Petroleum Engineering at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar, India. On 7th December 2010, Dr. Karmakar has taken over as Director, School of Petroleum Technology, Gadhinagar, India.
He is recipient of UNESCO Scholarship (IPG, Ploiesti, Romania) in 1981-1982; DAAD Fellowship (FSU, Jena, Germany) in 2000-2001, British Commonwealth Fellowship (Imperial College, London, UK) in 2001-2002 and DAAD Fellowship (FHL, Senftenberg, Germany) in 2006-2007.
He is actively engaged in research in the area of Enhanced Oil Recovery using Polymers and Oilfield Waste Treatment using Polymers. He has published more than 48 research papers in national/international journals/conferences.
Dr. Karmakar independently conducted one week special course on “Advanced Reservoir Engineering & Reservoir Management” during 9-13 November, 2008 for ADCO executives at Abu Dhabi, UAE, 6. He has independently conducted three days special course on “Reservoir Engineering for non-Reservoir Engineering Executives” during 16-18 September, 2010 for RIL executives at Mumbai, India. He has also conducted many specialized courses for ONGC executives on Reservoir Engineering, Oil Mines Safety and Regulations, and Oilfield Economics.
Dr. Karmakar is a Member, Technical Editorial Committee, SPE Reservoir Engineering & Evaluation, Society of Petroleum Engineers, USA. He is also reviewer of SPE Reservoir Engineering & Evaluation, Society of Petroleum Engineers, USA, Carbohydrate Polymers, Elsevier B V., USA, Journal of Applied Polymer Science, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., USA, Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Journal of Energy and Fuels and Indian Journal of Chemical Technology, National Institute of Science Communication, (CSIR), New Delhi, India.
Dr. Karmakar has made scientific visits to Romania, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, UAE, UK and USA.
Dr. Karmakar is a Member of Society of Petroleum Engineers’ USA and Lifetime Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), and Life Member of various learned societies, which include the Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India, Materials Research Society of India, Indian Society for Technical Education, Tribology Society of India and Indian Institute of Public Administration.
