PDPU has undertaken community development initiative
with an objective to be part of the growth of the surrounded
villages and to sensitize and motivate university students
to be a part of societal progress along with their own
development.
To start with PDPU has organized summer workshop for
the children between age group of 6 years to 15 years
of 5 nearby villages namely Raisan, Koba, Kudasan, Sargasan
and Por. The objectives of the summer workshops are
to:
• Broaden their exposure & understanding
• Accelerate their learning process
• Build confidence
• Develop creativity
• To open new horizon for vocation
The response from the villages for the workshop was
overwhelming. More & more children want to join
the workshop to learn and to have fun.
More than 400 students from these villages are participating
in the workshops. In the 3 weeks of time, children will
develop their skills in art & craft, spoken English
and basic computer literacy.
In art & craft workshop children worked with new
age media like glass, wood and fabric and created stained
glass painting, lacquer work wall panel, tie & die
on fabric etc. The kind of colorful and creative work
children have done, it left viewer in awe.
Students of computer workshop had fun with paint, when
they got a ground to display their creativity in digital
media. They also learn other basic software like MS
office and Power Point, which are now essential in day
to day life.
Like everyone, participants of the spoken English workshop
want to learn English and want to speak in English.
They learn English in fun way, where they play games,
watch movies, enact role play but all in English and
for English. The fear of foreign language is hardly
seen here and children are ready to adopt the language,
which is now consider as an international language and
have become life skill.
Apart from learning, the fun part of the workshop is
to get chance to interact with children of other villages
and make more friends.
The way ahead:
The initiative is the first step towards exploring possibilities
of developmental activities with the villages around.
The success of the initiative has build a confidence
in the idea and created a platform to have join consultation
with village leaders and other stakeholder on how university
and its students can get involved and support the development
of the village. |
